Gizmo's ideal home

Gizmo is looking for a quiet home where any children are teenaged. Although friendly with other dogs he can be a pest and doesn't like rowdy dogs so is probably best as the only dog at home, although he may be able to live with cats. Gizmo is house trained and can be left alone for an hour or two. He has a minor heart condition that does not require medication, but he will need his eyes lubricating daily for the foreseeable future.

Gizmo is a quirky young lad who has settled beautifully into his foster home. In our care through no fault of his own, he is full of character and loves to play with the squeakiest of toys and makes silly noises whilst doing so! Giz enjoys getting out and about but when he thinks he's walked far enough he will simply put the brakes on and refuse to move until you turn around. Communication is one of his strong points and when he wants something, he will bark at you until you figure it out! He doesn't like the wind and rain or hot weather but he does enjoy sitting on your lap and being groomed. Gizmo is a super little chap who is going to make someone very happy indeed.

Shih Tzu Puppy Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Shih Tzu.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Shih Tzu Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images
